Several of Alabama public schools allowed students to receive their education through virtual learning due to COVID-19; which affected identifying homeless students.
2020-2021 ALABAMA 118 655 Participation SEA to LEA Comparison: The total number of homeless enrolled students reported at the SEA-level is greater than or equal to the sum of the total homeless enrolled students reported across LEAs in the LEA-level data. The LEA-level data should be greater. The ALSDE only reports those students who were enrolled at that district for the end date of the school year. The ALSDE does not report withdrawn or dropout students that were identified as homeless which causes the student to be unduplicated. This is the same process that has been used in the past.

Due to the circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, ED waived the reporting of the statewide assessments in the 2019-2020 school year and encouraged states to consider flexibilities regarding the timing, length, and type of administration of assessments in the 2020-2021 school year. Statewide assessments were administered in most States in 2020-21 but, due to continued disruptions from the pandemic, rates of participation varied widely in schools throughout the country. Because assessment participation varied so widely, overall results for schools, districts and States may not be representative for those entities, and data for the school year 2020-2021 data may not be comparable with other years. 2020-2021 MISSISSIPPI 175 583 Performance Across File Comparison: The difference between the number of grade 6 migratory students who were assessed on the mathematics assessment and received a valid score reported in FS175/DG583 and the number of grade 6 eligible migratory students reported in FS121/DG634 is greater than 10 percent. The data are accurate. Variances between the two files are due to the difference in the collection periods and delayed synchronization between migrant data system and student information system.
