The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the collection and reporting of data on EDE, beginning in SY 2019-20. The Department urges abundant caution when using the data and recommends reviewing the relevant data notes prior to use or interpretation. This includes data on state assessments, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism.

2020-2021 ARKANSAS 150, 151 695, 696 Performance Prior Year Count Comparison (LEA): Submitted data indicated that the ALL STUDENTS cohort count (grand total) changed by more than 10% and 50 students or more from SY 2019-20 to SY 2020-21 for 6 LEAs that have a cohort count of 250 students or more. While this may be correct, this is a larger change than we would typically expect to see. The numbers of actual and expected graduates for the ALL cohort count did see changes due to the pandemic. Due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, students transferred to school districts that offered virtual learning. In 2021, one LEA had a 25% increase of 40 more students for actual graduate and a 32% increase of 71 more students for those expected to graduate. One LEA had a 33.5% increase of 65 more students for actual graduate and a 35% increase of 98 more students for those expected to graduate. Once LEA had a reduction of 117 students for a 9% decrease of actual graduates with a reduction of 169 students expected to graduate for a 10% decrease. One LEA had a reduction of 87 students for a 7% decrease of actual graduates with a reduction of 132 students expected to graduate for a 10% decrease. One LEA had a reduction of 42 students for a 13% decrease of actual graduates along with a reduction of 52 students expected to graduate with a 14% decrease. One LEA had a reduction of 52 students for a 12% decrease of actual graduates along with a reduction of 60 students expected to graduate with a 13% decrease.
2020-2021 ARKANSAS 150, 151 695, 696 Performance Prior Year Rate Comparison (LEA): The SY 2020-21 Four-Year grand total graduation rate is higher/lower by 3 percentage points or more than the SY 2019-20 Four-Year graduation rate in 4 LEAs containing 500 students or more. While this may be correct, this is a larger change than we would typically expect to see. The numbers of actual and expected graduates for the ALL cohort count did see changes due to the pandemic. One LEA had a reduction of 26 students for a 4% decrease of actual graduates with a reduction of 2 students expected to graduate. One LEA had a reduction of 33 students for a 4.5% decrease of actual graduates along with a reduction of 5 students expected to graduate. One LEA had a reduction of 96 students for a 13% decrease of actual graduate along with a reduction of 56 students expected to graduate for a 7% decrease. One LEA had a 3.5% increase of 50 more students for actual graduate, with a reduction of 10 students expected to graduate.
2020-2021 CALIFORNIA 150, 151 695, 696 Performance SEA to LEA Comparison: The SEA 4-Year Total Cohort Count is different from the aggregated LEA Total Cohort Count, when aggregated to the ALL, ECODIS, FCS, HOM, LEP, MA, MAN, MB, MF, MHL, MM, MNP, MW, CWD subgroups. Differences between SEA and LEA (by subgroup): - ALL: 74612 students, or 14.92%, - ECODIS: 54744 students, or 15.94%, - FCS: 1051 students, or 17.57%, - HOM: 5500 students, or 16.21%, - LEP: 10064 students, or 14.91%, - MA: 2794 students, or 5.95%, - MAN: 511 students, or 19.57%, - MB: 6602 students, or 23.33%, - MF: 1153 students, or 8.18%, - MHL: 42536 students, or 15.67%, - MM: 3949 students, or 20.23%, - MNP: 330 students, or 13.57%, - MW: 16737 students, or 14.57%, - CWD: 8857 students, or 13.99% It has not been the CDE's practice to include "direct-funded" charters in the LEA file because CDE considers them to be schools. The Department understands that charter schools in California may elect to receive funding either directly from the State or locally through the LEA that granted its charter. Thus, the charter school may be considered a charter school LEA for funding purposes and reported in this file as an LEA rather than included in the counts for the LEA that authorized the charter school. Moving forward the CDE will include direct-funded charters and their corresponding data in the LEA file. This change will result in the data for the school file equaling the data in LEA file.
