The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the collection and reporting of data on EDE, beginning in SY 2019-20. The Department urges abundant caution when using the data and recommends reviewing the relevant data notes prior to use or interpretation. This includes data on state assessments, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism.

2021-2022 OKLAHOMA 138 675 Performance The State reported 7% of English learners not participating in the annual ELP assessment; however, the requirement is that all ELs are assessed. A number of factors had a negative impact on the number of students tested: several school days were lost due to severe weather, many LEAs experienced COVID-19 related disruptions, and testing was disrupted by technical failures with our vendor.

2021-2022, 2020-2021 ALL STATES 141 678 Participation Total population for ‘English Learner’ subgroup is pulled from Data Group 678 (File Specification 141) and is defined as “The unduplicated number of English learner students enrolled in an elementary or secondary school.” Additional details about the file can be found at:  EDFacts Submissions System (ESS) File Specifications.
2021-2022 OKLAHOMA 141 678 Participation Year to Year Comparison: The State reported a difference of 20% or greater in the number of English learners enrolled speaking Uncoded languages between the current school year and prior year. This is due to a failure of LEAs to enter accurate data in their Student Information Systems. The SEA is increasing training of LEAs in order to improve data accuracy.
2021-2022 OKLAHOMA 141 678 Participation In 7 LEA(s), the data indicate a change of 50% or more in the number of English learners enrolled between the current school year and the prior school year. An LEA changed state code between 2020-21 and 2021-22. Oklahoma worked with LEAs to improve identification and reporting procedures. Figures reported are accurate. The increase is due to the return of students who had left the LEA during the COVID-19 pandemic.
