Steps for downloading the data you need (For more details, go to FAQs)

  1. Use the filters to the left to choose your data of interest (Tip: For File Specification and Data Group filters, hover over titles for more information)
  2. Select "RESET FILTERS" at any time to return to the default filters
  3. Once you have selected the data you need, click on the "DOWNLOAD DATA" button to download CSV and data notes. Your data will export immediately.

 

Due to current system issues, datasets must be limited to fewer than 150,000 rows. A selection of data greater than 150,000 rows may result in a truncated dataset. In addition, as you filter for your preferred dataset, the filters may disappear, or the page may appear blank. 2022-2023, 2021-2022, 2020-2021 ALL STATES 195, 195PCT 814PCT SEA, LEA, SCH Methods notes: The values for ‘percent chronically absent students’ are calculated by number of chronically absent students (FS195/DG814) divided by number of students in the school—or ‘membership’ in the school (FS052/DG39). Interpretation of results should consider inconsistences between the two datasets, how the dataset universe was defined for this analysis, and transformation/suppression decisions. (1) Inconsistencies with the dataset: Membership data is collected at one point in time, whereas chronic absenteeism data is collected over the school year.  Double counting may occur with the chronic absenteeism data which can inflate the percentage.  (2) Defining the universe:(a) The membership and chronic absenteeism data were merged at the school level, and then rolled up for LEA and SEA analyses. (b) As chronic absenteeism data provides data for students in K-12 only, preK and adult education were excluded from membership, (c) Schools with 0 students in the membership dataset were excluded. (3) Transformation/suppression was applied with the following conditions :(a) Percent chronic absenteeism between 100-200 – set percent chronic absenteeism to 100. (b) Percent chronic absenteeism over 200 and membership is less than or equal to 50 students, set percent chronic absenteeism to 100(c) Percent chronic absenteeism is over 200 and membership is greater than 50, suppress chronic absenteeism.

The data are protected by adding or subtracting one student for cell sizes less than or equal to four and random data swapping for cell sizes less than or equal to three. The state notes in all sections of ED Data Express reflect the views of the state only and do not necessarily reflect compliance with requirements or consistency with reporting instructions.
2022-2023, 2021-2022, 2020-2021, 2019-2020, 2018-2019 ALL STATES 195 814, 814PCT SEA, LEA, SCH Data for FS195/DG814 are reported at the school level. For ED Data Express, the Department has aggregated the data to the LEA and SEA level for user convenience. Aggregated data are impacted by quality issues in the source data, which, in this case, are the school level. Also, student counts may be duplicative. Students are reported in each school in which they are enrolled and absent 10% or more school days during the school year. As a result, students who are defined and reported as chronically absent at more than one school in a given school year will be counted more than once when aggregated up to the LEA, SEA, and national levels. The state notes in all sections of ED Data Express reflect the views of the state only and do no necessarily reflect compliance with requirements or consistency with reporting instructions.
2022-2023 ARIZONA 195 814 SCH, LEA, SEA The sum of the School data group in the Chronic Absenteeism file for Student Count by Sex (Membership) by Racial Ethnic (Category Set A) did not equal the Education Unit Total. This applies to 4 schools. The difference in count between the total counts and the sum of each contributing subgroup can be attributed to students with missing gender information in our data.
2022-2023 BUREAU OF INDIAN EDUCATION 195 814 SCH, LEA, SEA When aggregated to the SEA level, there were no students who are Chronic Absentee reported for one or more race/ethnicities. This applies to 6 schools. BIE only reports American Indian and Alaskan Native students.
2022-2023 CALIFORNIA 195 814 SCH, LEA, SEA The sum of the School data group in the Chronic Absenteeism file for Student Count by Sex (Membership) by Racial Ethnic (Category Set A) did not equal the Education Unit Total. This applies to 480 schools. Effective SY2019-20, the California Department of Education collects a third gender option, 'X' - Nonbinary. In files where gender is a required data element, the education unit total (EUT) and the sums of the subtotals that includes sex/gender will not match.
2022-2023 INDIANA 118, 195 814, 655 SCH, LEA, SEA The sum of homeless enrolled students in the school data group in the Chronic Absenteeism file aggregated to the LEA level was greater than zero but a count of greater than zero was not reported for that LEA in the Homeless Students Enrolled file. This applies to 20 LEAs. In FS118, students homeless status is reported as identified by the LEA. In FS195, students are identified demographically as homeless or not (if any LEA reported them), so students could be in the homeless demographic group and show up in FS195 but not reported by the specific LEA in FS118.
2022-2023 MAINE 195 814 SCH, LEA, SEA The sum of the School data group in the Chronic Absenteeism file for Student Count by Sex (Membership) by Racial Ethnic (Category Set A) did not equal the Education Unit Total. This applies to 7 schools. The inconsistency with the count is due to students having the Sex field marked as "Not Selected". We performed school outreach to ensure each of these students were not marked that by accident.
2022-2023 MICHIGAN 118, 195 814, 655 SCH, LEA, SEA The sum of homeless enrolled students in the school data group in the Chronic Absenteeism file aggregated to the LEA level was greater than zero but a count of greater than zero was not reported for that LEA in the Homeless Students Enrolled file. This applies to 39 LEAs. The data reported accurately reflect the data submitted to the SEA. FS118 business rules state the student must be homeless identified by the district and the nighttime residence reported. Therefore, FS118 only includes districts reporting a homeless nighttime district for homeless students (that is, the district specifically identified the student as homeless). Students may be enrolled in multiple districts during in a school year and our business rules for FS195 use the homeless flag at the student level which spans these district enrollments.
